Vegan Chocolate Crossies Recipe

Vegan Chocolate Crossies recipe made with vegan chocolate and whole bran flakes. One crossie dessert is under 100 calories and even contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals. Great vegan snack for on the go, for chocolate cravings, or for bringing to a party.

Are you ready for a super quick chocolate recipe that is also very delicious?

Growing up, I used to eat choco crossies all the time. Back then I wasn’t vegan, and these treats were also pretty expensive. It is super easy to make these vegan choco crossies at home. All you need is vegan chocolate and unsweetened whole bran flakes.

Nutrition of the Vegan Chocolate Crossies

The recipe below (one batch) makes about 8 crossies. One crossie contains 86 calories, 12 g carbs, 4 g fat, 1.2 g protein, and 2 g fiber. The carb to fiber ratio is very good considering this is a sweet treat. One crossie alone also contains between 4% and 11% of B-vitamins, 1.1 g iron, and some zinc.

The nutrition info depends on what chocolate and bran flakes you use. I use this bakers chocolate that you can also get at Walmart. I also like to use the dark chocolate at Lidl or Aldi.

You can find vegan chocolate at most stores. They might not be labeled as vegan so you have to read the label. The ones that are vegan are mostly dark chocolate.

You can melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a small pan on the stove. NOT ALL chocolates will melt in the microwave so you might want to test a small piece first. If you are not sure, go the safe route and melt it in a small pot.

Instructions

  1. You can melt the chocolate in a dish in the microwave or in a small pot on the stove. Some vegan chocolate does not melt well in the microwave so check a small piece first. If you would rather do it the safe way, choose the pot on the stove.
  2. For the microwave, set the timer to 30 seconds and check the chocolate by stirring. Set it for another 30 seconds and repeat this process until fully melted.
  3. If you use the stove to melt the chocolate you can simply place the chocolate into the pot on medium heat and wait until melted. Stir occasionally.
  4. Then add the cup of bran flakes into the bowl or pot with the melted chocolate. Stir it around gently until almost all flakes are coated with chocolate. This might take a few minutes.
  5. Now scoop out a portion of flakes with a tablespoon and place it on the parchment paper or baking mat. You can place the baking sheet on a cutting board to make the transfer into the fridge easier.
  6. Make about 8 choco crossies piles.
  7. Let sit in the fridge for 20-30 minutes or in the freezer for 5-10. The flakes will stick together once the crossies are cooled. ENJOY!
