Pumpkin Spice Latte is actually not our favorite drink at Starbucks, but the vegan soy chai latte is! Nevertheless, I wanted to try my own dairy free pumpkin spiced latte at home.

My husband and I don’t go to a coffee place often, because we have a very good coffee maker that grinds the beans and then makes fresh coffee. In the morning we schedule the coffee maker to run before we wake up so that we enter the kitchen to a fresh coffee smell.

Of course I buy my coffee beans at Aldi and all of our guests really enjoy it. Making quality coffee at home saves us SO MUCH MONEY! Therefore, I would like to make my own vegan latte macchiato blends this fall.

A latte macchiato is basically hot and frothed milk with a shot of espresso. For the vegan version I love to use soy milk, because it gives the latte a more sweet taste. You can also use almond milk or other non dairy. To my surprise, both almond and soy milk foamed up pretty easily. I haven’t tried any other plant milk to make the vegan latte macchiato.

The almond milk does have a slightly bitter taste, so I would rather try the unflavoured and unsweetened soy milk to make this hot and cozy drink. To froth the hot milk, I use this frother and hold it into the glass with hot soy milk until the foam rises up till 3/4th of the glass.

Make sure the glasses you use are thick to heat the milk in. I found mine at the Christmas Tree Shop for $1 each, but you can also search Amazon

You can substitute soy milk with almond milk if you like and also add sugar to your taste. We cut back on sugar so we don’t add it to our coffee. Please make sure to stir your latte occasionally as the the pumpkin pie spice likes to collect at the bottom of the glass. Also check out the vegan pumpkin donuts recipe.

The plant based pumpkin spice latte contains only 40 calories and makes a great skinny coffee drink (without the sugar, of course). It even contains 4g of protein!

This recipe is also suitable for weight loss and if you are on the 21 day fix you can count 1/4 red container (using soy milk and no sugar).

Healthy vegan and skinny pumpkin spiced latte that can be done in under 10 minutes.
21 day fix: If you use soy milk and no sugar count 1/4 red container.

  • 1/2 cup soy milk (or other plant milk)
  • 1/3 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/3 cup strong coffee or a shot of espresso
  • a 12-14 oz glass
  • Milk frother
  • maple syrup (optional, as desired)
  1. Place the milk into a thick (latte) glass and microwave until hot (1-2 minutes)
  2. Then add the spice and froth until to foam rises to about 3/4th of the glass. In this step you can add the sugar as desired.
  3. Then add the coffee/espresso and serve with spoon to stir. You can sprinkle some of the spice mix on top of the foam.
