Healthy vegan black forest smoothie that contains spinach and chia seeds for anti oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Tastes like a sweet dessert without added sugar and only 250 calories.
Today’s smoothie recipe was inspired by the traditional black forest cake. I grew up close enough to the black forest in Germany that the black forest cake was a staple for parties. Since deciding to eat a plant based vegan diet, I have ditched the black forest cake.
I love smoothies so I figured why not use similar ingredients to make a vegan black forest smoothie. I usually drink smoothies due to their health benefits, but they obviously also have to taste good. And to make a healthy smoothie taste good is an art!
This black forest smoothie recipe doesn’t just taste good, it tastes like a very delicious dessert! There is no added sugar or any other artificial sweetener, but it is filled with superfoods like chia seeds and spinach. One serving of this plant based black forest smoothie contains only 250 calories. Therefore, it also makes a great weight loss snack. These 250 calories are filled with important fiber, plant based protein (7.5 g), omega 3 (anti-inflammatory), B vitamins, and other vitamins and minerals. One shake contains 5 mg of iron and 165 mg of magnesium!
This recipe is very easy to prepare, simply add all ingredients into a blender (I use this one) and done. Just make sure to use pitted cherries and also fresh baby spinach. You can easily transition this into a filling breakfast smoothie by adding oats. Get more smoothie recipes like this in the Meal Planner>>
