What is the 21 day fix?
The 21 day fix is a workout and nutrition program that helps you lose up to 15 lbs. in 21 days. The program provides a workout plan with workout videos and a nutrition guide. The diet plan is based on portion control through color coded containers.

It is a straight forward and easy system to lose weight and keep it off. The containers help to balance your diet based on 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat and make it easy to create your own healthy meal plan.
Maybe I should just count calories…
Well, counting calories or points can also be very complicated. Also, with calorie counting alone you can eat 1400 calories a day without having a balanced diet to get all the nutrition your body needs.
When you try to lose weight, it is important to eat right so that your body can become strong and recover quickly. When I counted calories to lose weight, I lost about 1 lb a week. Doing the 21 day fix I lost 3 lbs. in 6 days.

Do I need to be fit to join?
Absolutely not. This program includes the right meal plan and right workout for every fitness level. You can decide how, where, when to workout. You can even do this without working out and still lose weight.
The same goes for the meal plan. You can decide which calorie plan to follow and how much you want to cut back on food. I will teach and explain every step later in the post. You can also shoot me an email anytime with your questions.
How to meal plan with the 21 Day Fix
You can use this formula below to calculate your daily calorie target.
If you like to keep your weight (after the diet) then use the calculated maintenance calories. Once you know your calorie intake you can head over to the container plan in your program to see how much to eat from each category.
If you calculated your calories and you fall into PLAN A but you don’t want to cut back too much, you can simply go with PLAN B. It is really up to you how fast you want to lose those pounds. You can also follow Plan B for one week first and then Plan A so that you ease into the new diet.
If you follow PLAN A you would simply fill 3 green containers with vegetables, 2 purple ones with fruit, and so on. Each color of the containers has a different size. When I meal plan, I usually check off my dinner container count first so that I know what I can eat all day until then. For lunch it is simple to just fill in the veggies, protein (like chicken), and dressing containers and mix it all into a delicious salad.
Do I have to starve myself?
I am not lying, you will get hungry here and there if you start PLAN A right away. That is because your body is used to eating much more, plus if you have enjoyed lots of fast food, your body is probably a little addicted to it already. So eating healthy could cause bloating or you will feel like you need to eat more.
Know that this meal plan gives you very good nutrition and your body does not have a deficiency. I get dizzy often especially in the morning. With the diet of PLAN A I feel hungry sometimes but not dizzy, which tells me that I do actually have enough food and a healthy nutrition. And again you can always go back and do PLAN B first.
TIP: Start your day with protein and fruit to give you quick and long lasting energy.
Also keep in mind that the hunger feeling will go away once your body has adapted to the new plan and you have set your mind to it. Instead of thinking about food all the time, set times when you eat and what you eat. And in between think about something else. Make sure you eat every 2-3 hours and drink lots of water or tea.

How to stay encouraged
Don’t give up. I promise you will see results. If you feel like you don’t lose weight, you just have to be patient. Also you could simply be gaining muscles which will not indicate the fat loss on your scale right away. If you cheat here and there, don’t worry too much about it. You are not in a rush and you will still reach your goal. Just keep trying!
If one meal plan doesn’t work for you, you can always switch some meals out or around to find the perfect fit. It is also a good idea to do the 21 day fix with a friend to stay motivated.
The 21 day fix workouts
The 21 day fix comes with 2 DVD’s including 6 workouts altogether. The workouts are designed to achieve major calorie burn in 30 minutes. This is great for busy people and makes fitness more simple.
Each workout has the option to follow along on a higher or lower intensity level. Therefore everybody can join these workouts. If you don’t want to purchase the workouts but you want to follow the meal plan, you can choose your own workouts. Go jogging, go to the gym, get a home gym, or pick free workouts online.
What if I hate working out?
Relax, this meal plan works even if you don’t work out. I would not recommend this though. Building muscles helps you in the long run. The muscles keep working even if you don’t work out anymore and therefore you boost your metabolism. Also, you will feel stronger and get sick less often and you will feel much more energized during the day.
You can also simply include a 20-30 minute walk in your daily routine to help boost metabolism and burn some extra calories. Try to walk a little faster than usual.
What happens after the 21 days?
If you want to keep losing weight after the 21 days, just do the whole thing all over again until you reach your dream weight. You can always choose other workouts to mix things up. If you sign up for the streaming service you will have access to hundreds of workouts, meal plans, and recipes.
Some people say that the 21 day fix is really just a quick fix. Well, any diet can be just a quick fix if you don’t tranform your thinking and lifestyle. The 21 day fix really teaches you about understanding how much to eat and what to eat.
Once you have reached your dream weight you can adjust your meal plan to your maintenance calories. You can keep working out without further weight loss if you eat the amount of calories that you burn. Therefore, you won’t lose more weight but you keep the muscles and the healthy lifestyle.
Careful though, it is easy to fall back into your old diet. It is also possible that you might gain weight and lose weight like a roller coaster. I highly suggest you adjust your meal plan based on the 21 day fix that fits your lifestyle. This will create a habit for the healthy lifestyle so you don’t really have to think about what and when to eat, you just do it automatically.
Who is the 21 day fix for?
This program is designed for the beginner and intermediate. Workouts are easy to follow with modifiers for different levels. Either way you will see results. If you are already very fit and have used workouts like Insanity before, these workouts may be too easy. The eating plan is also designed to save time on meal planing and it is easier than counting calories.
What comes with the program and what will I need?
You can get the 21 day fix program over at beachbody.com (comes with containers) or access the 21 day fix by streaming all beachbody workouts and nutrition plans (does not come with the containers but you can access all materials online). The only thing that you might need are some weights.
You don’t have to purchase the weights if you follow the moderate workout. You can also choose other workouts from the Beachbody streaming service (without weights). I do recommend using the weights, because they promote faster muscle growth. Here are some suggestions:

Do I need Shakeology?
Shakeology is a protein shake with additional vitamins, minerals, and herbs. It will help you recover quickly, boost your immune system, and help you build muscles. PLUS, it can be a super fast, healthy snack if you are a busy person.
BUT it is not a cure all.
You still have to eat right during the day, follow the nutrition guide, and do the workouts. Shakeology is supportive for the program, but it is not an only-weight loss-solution. So keep that in mind when you order it.
So what is the conclusion?
Well, you don’t NEED Shakeology to see results. It will definitely help, but will not determine if you lose weight or not. You can maintain a good balanced nutrition simply eating the right food. I designed my meal plans without Shakeology for people on a budget.
Shakeology counts as one red container and you can also mix it with other containers, like the fruits, vegetables, or nuts.
21 Day Fix Results
Like I have already mentioned, I tested the 21 day fix with this meal plan for 6 days and already lost 3 lbs. Sadly, I did not keep that weight because I fell back into my old eating habits.
Now I am on the second round of the 21 day fix with a before and (hopefully soon) after picture. And after 2 weeks these are the results so far.
Update: 30 days later and I lost 9 lbs, 6 inches around my waist, 1.5 inches around my hips, and 2 inches around my thighs. I also didn’t get any migraine in that month to where I would get 1-2 migraines per month. I had more energy and got more things done.
The first 3-6 days of changing my diet were hard. But after getting my body used to the new routine I’m not having a hard time anymore.
Note: It is NORMAL to “make little mistakes” and add a cookie here, more cheese there, or some gravy with it. Know that this doesn’t ruin your healthy lifestyle and also doesn’t mess up all the hard work you put into it already. You are still eating healthy and working out, so you will still see results. Don’t let little mistakes discourage you. And if you are not in a rush to lose weight you can add one cheat day per week.
